Since both SuperFatting and Lye Reduction end up with a higher Oil proportion than Lye, technically, the final product should be the same, however, due to the fact that the addition of oil in SuperFatting is AFTER the addition of the Lye Solution, hence the nutrients of the SF Oil is not destroyed by the Lye as much as in Lye Reduction.

 

11.Water Multiple

The Standard Water Multiple is 2.5, but this is affected by a number of conditions:

 

 

 

a)   The INS Value of the Soap – the higher the INS Value, the higher the Water Multiple.

b)   Temperature – the higher the Temperature, the higher the Water Multiple.

c)   The Proportion of Hard Oil used – the higher the Hard Oil component, the higher the Water Multiple.

d)   The Density of the Oil used – the higher the Oil Density (e.g. EVOO), the higher the Water Multiple.

e)   The Amount of Powder used – the more Powder used, the higher the Water Multiple.

f)    It is necessary to have a higher Water Multiple if more than 10% of Shea Butter is used because Shea Butter tends to absorb more water.
